Reactions 49. Politicians Should Have Nowhere to Hide on Election Promises About The NHS.
Call To Action
I heard someone this morning describe a political election campaign as an elaborate marketing exercise involving two opposing teams who raise money, rally their troops, and go head to head to run a huge advertising war, to win approval, votes, and ultimately power. It’s a cynical, but perhaps an accurate way to describe what goes on, especially with politicians’ increasing reliance on social media ads, the increasing budgets they’re allowed to spend on campaigning, and the dirty tactics we’ve seen in recent years.
As we approach the next General Election, I’m sure many of us are reflecting on what happened last time. The emphatic promises to ‘get Brexit done’, Boris Johnson hiding in a fridge, the Conservative Party changing one of their Twitter handles to ‘FactCheckUK’ during a national televised debate, and their promise of 40 new NHS hospitals.
